I wanna a new camera with recording

With a baby on the way I'd like a good quality camera to picture all the important memorable moments of my little one. The budget is not huge though. And I want to be able to record short movies as well.

I thought of Nikkon brand but can consider other. Any suggestions which one is good and where to buy cheapest?
