Late payment charges on mortgage question

Hiya,

I had my mortgage statement today and there are late payment fees, a late payment interest charge and returned direct debit fees.

Is there anything I can do they come to about £160

Hiya - I'm not sure about this sorry - you could maybe ask on the bank charges reclaiming board to see if anyone knows on there what the rules about mortgage charges are?

Back last June I had all my charges refunded to me. It was an old mortgage which I had transferred to another bank but I got it back. It was before the bank charges court case though so I don't know where you stand now.
  • I claimed mine back in 2006 and won. I would still put in a claim as it can't hurt to try.

People have been able to claim back the mortgage exit administration fee that is charged when you redeem your mortgage, generally when you move to a different lender. You usually get back the difference between what the lender charges now and what they charged when you first took out your mortgage.

Late payment fees and interest on late payments are detailed in the terms and conditions and you are unlikely to be able to get a refund on those.

They are also detailed on bank accounts yet people get the money back. I got all my late payment fees back on the mortgage but not the interest.

Not at the moment they don't - it's all on hold until the current case is decided.
