It's more uncomfortable than anything else, and I think I'd opt for the sedation if I needed another one, as the spray was a bit of a shock - I wasn't quite prepared as to how numb my throat would go, so quickly. Your immediate reaction is to swallow as soon as it's been sprayed, but it's so weird trying to swallow when you have no feeling in your throat.
Lots of retching for me as well, combined with lots of burping and drooling, but the kind nurse held my hand - or rather I squeezed the life out of hers. :rotfl:0 -

bunny - dont get freaked out by this - take both spray and sedation - they are both there to make the whole experience more comfotable.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
I think I'll take the option of both, as I'll probably be a wimp anyway

I'd like to thank everyone again for your replies and I will let you know how I get on (How wimpy I am!)0 -
Well I have an update:-
I had my gastroscopy around 2:30pm, I didn't have any sedation, They had trouble getting the needle in, so I said I'll try without. They said to let them know if I change my mind and they'll get a needle in. I did have the throat spray.
Everyone was lovely, friendly and professional.:T
The test took less than 10 mins, it's not a nice experience but there are worse to be had IYKWIM.
The result is I have a Hiatus Hernia, so I need to cut down on my beloved Italian and Chinese food.
Thank you all again for your replies:T0 -
