Pans / Kitchen Knives

Anyone any suggestions for where the best place to get a saucepan set and / or set of kitchen knives from? Our pans have just about given up the ghost (the non-stick layer is appearing in our food!) and we could do with some decent knives?

lot's of sales still on eg Debenhams and Alders
where you could pick up decent sets for a lower price,
or even hang on for Jan sales
or ask for them as gifts for Xmas0 -
Check out Amazon as well, I found some really good kitchen knives on there for half the price my local Cooks shop was selling them for.
Debenhams have got a set of stainless steel saucepans in the sale at the moment, Prestige Progrip, for £75 (normally £200) but I've no idea what Prestige pans are like.0 -
You could also try TKMAXX as they often have a lot of good quality kitchen ware at reduced prices.0

Thanks for that - anyone recommend whether it is worth going for stainless steel or non-stick? Am worried about burning stuff onto the steel ones and the non-stick ones loosing their coating in the food (as happened to my last lot!)
Also would be interested to know the difference between all the knives out there as there is a massive range of prices!0 -
I agree about the stainless stell pans being prone to sticking or burning, they're okay if you are cooking with plenty of oil, but tricky if you trying to be more healthy.
For a pan set I'd recommend Meyer Anolon, they are *brilliant*. We had another thread on these pans else where on these boards and a number of people chipped in to say how pleased they were with them, you'll also find plenty of glowing praise if you search the web for reviews.

Amazon do a five peice set at £100, which is good value, you might be able to find the set a tenner cheaper if you huunt around.
As for knives, I'd suggest you don't need a set, just a couple of good quality knives will do pretty much anything you need in the kitchen - a standard 8 inch chefs knife and then a smaller paring/utility knife.
Again, don't go for cheap jobs, they are a false economy, go for something like Wusthof Classic, or Henkels 4 star.

They'll cost something like 60 quid for a pair, but will last you just about a lifetime of regular home kitchen use. Not only will they last forever but they'll be a joy to use. Don't forget to budget for a good quality steel too.0 -
80% of Americans have traces of a cancer-causing non-stick chemical in their blood. "Stick" with the stainless steel ones if you want my advice.Nice to save.0

Will probably go for the Wusthof knives when I can afford them too!0
