Sewing tips - converting a zipped top into a tie-up corset-style top

I've just bought a bargainous dress from a clearance seller on ebay (was £75 in shops, and I got it for under £10). I'm not sure if it will fit me, and since the bodice looks pretty simple, I'm trying to figure out whether I can change the zip to a lace-up corset style and cannabilise some fabric from the belt to make the bodice wider. The dress hasn't arrived yet, I just want to know in advance whether anyone here thinks this is do-able!

It should be fine, all you'd have to do is unpick the zip and add some of that eyelet tape - I keep meaning to buy some of that cos it looks like brilliant stuff with a multitude of uses!

The other thing you could do is pick up an offcut of a matching or contrasting fabric, and then use it to edge either side of the corset fastening.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
