I had the 250 version and it played up after 6 months ! Amazon reviews confirmed that this fault was widespread.

I ordered the WD My Book 2.0 from Amazon. After 3 weeks of it saying it will be delivered the estimated date has gone, so i've cancelled.

From all the reviews i've read (mostly stood in WH Smiths), it is the best External hard drive to buy.

This is a 500gb.

I have had 2 500gb MyBooks since the summer '07 and have had no faults, *touch wood*.

Maybe your fault was widespread in the 250gb version?

Horrible unreliable disks - not just the 250GB version. Most people in the computer industry, myself included, will *never* by a WD disk.

Personally I prefer WD as with Seagate you no longer know if you're getting Seagate or Maxtor. My external drive (connected to my old laptop as a server) here is a 500Gb HGST (i.e. Hitachi/IBM technology) in an external case.

IMHO those are the best drives money can buy - at a premium; and you can configure spin-down for powersaving when not in use, etc. using their utility

This one's not sold by Amazon and so the possibility of claiming back if the price drops in 30 days would not be an option. A good spot though.
