mystery money!

Hi,

Im new here. I registered on the forum to post a query that I have.

I checked my bank account a couple of days ago and have had £429 put into my bank! I have no idea why its there. My statement simply says that ELEC CONNECT has put the money in. I really dont know whats going on and am pretty sure Im not owed the money.

any advice would be great!!

Many thanks
John

A long shot but could it be a utility bill rebate or something like that? Sorry if it sounds stupid but just a thought

    Hi John,

    Welcome to MSE.

You really need to call your bank, they will have more details about the source of the payment x
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Hi guys thanks for responding.

I went into my bank (Nationwide) and asked them what the money was there for. They said they only new that it was ELEC CONNECT and gave me an acc number. Im sure im not owed this much for utility bills... I just want to make it known to them that I dont want to crack into it (discipline!!) and wont do until i know why its there!!

I also have my eye on this gorgeous classical guitar....

  • Have you tried googling the company who has credited you with the money or seeing if you can find any contact details, perhpas if you give them the account number they could possibly trace the payment.

It could be an admin error, however I am sure they would have noticed

If a month or so passes and it hasn't been deducted from your balance and the bank don't seem to care (keep them informed) then I would say its yours.

  • thanks for more repsonses..

I am going to give it a month before I start spnding any of it and if anyone asks for it after that then I'll tell them the situation.

I have typed both the sort code, the account number, elec connect and all the variations of the three into google and cant find anything of any use,

I'll just have to wait and see!

Take the money out so you don't spend it and put it in a savings account. I think they can ask for it back up to about 7 years. Meanwhile earn the interest. Then look for an even better guitar in 7 years.
