I have been in with Arthur today and bought two sofas from DFS and was offered their 0% deal whereby you pay nothing for the first 12 months and then pay a fixed a month for the last 36 months still at 0%. However I have checked the paperwork very, very carefully and can see nothing that should worry me about the agreement. What I do not understand why would a finance company be offering free deals when they are not making anything out of item. Obviously or I assume DFS will make a profit on the sale but not sure what benefit this would be to Blackhorse who are the credit provider.

I don't think DFS sell sofas anyother way than on 0%... prepared to be corrected on this

Also if you are buying 0% then this will start from date of order not from date of delivery which can be quite a bit different
    2007 £1749
    2008 £291.99
    2009 JanMasscara £7.00 Feb megcabot books x 2 £20 XFactor tkts x 2 £58.00 (couldn't go though as they only phoned on day :-( ) foundation £7.99
total so far for 09 £92.99
  • What you dont see is the hidden fee that is embedded into the cost of the Sofa. i.e the finance company will be paid a fee and thus make money but it is all hush hush.

It is why in the past you could pay a cheaper price for the sofas at DFS if you told the manager you wanted to pay for the item outright. DFS however no longer allow this.

We did this three years ago and chose to start paying straight away insted of over the last 2 of the 3 years (was only 3 years 0% back then). I'm sure the payments started on the date of delivery. The way I see it is DFS have built in the cost of their finance company giving you 0% into the sofa that you buy. I checked my paperwork thoroughly and it all adds up.

    yes, your right.

My experience has been that the first year at 0% is so you can get all the faults rectified (if you're lucky) and by the time you've finished paying for it over the next 3 years, your sofas are done for and you need to buy new ones....... Thus, you're continually paying for sofas.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Great marketing though :D

Well thats crap. Not everyone wants to pay for a sofa for 3 years. You would think they would just want the money how ever it is payed  (i dont mean your comment is crap just the fact they wont take payment on the spot :])
  • We bought two sofas from them a week or so ago. Their price was very competitive and we were happy with it. We took 3 years interest free credit, first payment 1 month after delivery.

We bought a sofa from them about 8 years ago and its still fine.

Personally I think they are excellent

Ok, so I want to buy a sofa, I cant really afford the one I want so maybe DFS is a good choice? This 4 years interest free deal, do they arrange a payment plan over 4 years or sting you with 30%+ interest at the end of your small payment plan?

Do you know if the actually credit check for this? Is 0% an average or a gospel? I work in credit analysis and we cant understand how this is working!!! (but if I get a new sofa out of it then who am I to complain???)
 I'll get you debts and your little dog too!!!
And best of luck to all the other debt busters out there!!
