can you steam frozen veg?

Can you steam frozen veg in the steamer??? If so what sort of time does it take?

  • Yes, I reckon you can, I only ever have frozen peas but I steam them, they take just a little longer than if you'd boiled them. The timing would depend on the size of the veggie pieces. Birds Eye do packs of veg to steam so it might be worth looking at them when you are next in the supermarket so you can get an idea of timings from the packet

    I've steamed other veg successfully - eg cauli, green beans. They take a little longer, but just keep checking until they're done as much as you like them.

    I have nightmares about steamed frozen broccoli (even though I've done that OK too) as my MIL steams it until it's mush (Pucky smilie) :D

    I do it all the time, in either the microwave or in my steamer. In my experience everything, other than cauliflower, takes about 2 minutes longer to cook than it would normally, cauliflower takes about 3 to 4 minutes more - however I guess that would depend how big your frozen florets are though! :p

    I usually steam frozen veggies with no probs, microwaving works just as well.

    At the price they charge :eek:, shame on you. :rotfl:

    If anyone really must buy steampacks then Tesco and Morrisons now do their own a bit cheaper.

    I steam them too, great in an emergency but you do have to keep checking them.

    i was thinking of steaming frozen corn on the cob, the cut up bits cause they are bogof in tesco and i love them!!

    i have never used my steamer before, does the corn turn to mush? or is it easier to just boil them :confused::o
