Hi all,
We have an electric hob and the black hotplate's have darker black spots on them than won't clean off. They have definetely had something drip on them.
We have tried Cif, Civit Bang, Stardrops and Barman's Friend. Does anybody know of a way to get rid of it or maybe something that you can paint over the hotplate's ?
Thanks

Depends on what it is. Might be worth leaving it overnight with a cloth soaked in hotwater/stardrops mix. The warm water and stardrops should help soften the burnt on stuff.
If this doesn't work and you can run to it, Lakeland do a fantastic oven cleaner which you brush on and leave to work on any burnt on stuff.
I am sure others will have some ideas too. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Our hotplates have similar marks. I think kleeneze do a special cloth thats supposed to clean the hot plates without damaging them but cant remember what its called. Must remember next time I get the bookMary

The marks have been there a few months, so I am not sure what caused them.0 -
The Lakeland stuff is really good - I painted it on my OH's oven walls and grills which were pretty grim, left them for a couple of hours and they came up sparkling! He couldn't believe it!

Before resorting to "specialist" cleaners, it's worth trying a strong solution of bicarb. You could soak a cloth in strong solution of bicarb in HOT water and then draping the cloth over the elements that are stained.
My mother always used the "new fangled" electric cookers and swore by them - sadly, I only swore *at* them and prefer gas. But, it's worth a try before you invest in Lakeland stuff~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My oven become quite deplorable after a spate of dh's cooking; a good clean with a strong bicarb solution brought it back to it's original glory~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I will try the bicarb tonight and if that fails then I will go to Lakeland at the weekend.
Thanks0 -
Hope the bicarb solution works - its far more OS! If not, here is the cleaner at Lakeland I can recommend. I have used it on the hob too.

Funny I have just soaked a cloth in cornflour solution instead of bicard in error.
Edit: Bicarb does not touch it. Off to Lakeland this weekend now.0
