Finally had a chance to sort this out. I was wondering if it was going to be worth it costwise as the delivery charge was pretty steep at £7.49. So I did a bit of calculating; the bicarb, borax and acetic acid weigh roughly the same so I allocated £2.49 shipping for each item.
I've been unable to find bicarb or borax locally (even in Boots) but have seen online that Tesco do 500g of bicarb for £0.99. I paid £2.49 + £2.80 for 2kg which works out as £1.32/500g, so much more expensive than Tesco.
I ordered 1 litre of acetic acid. This dilutes with 7 parts water to make 8 litres of 'white vinegar.' Final cost is £3.05 + £2.49 for 1 litre, and works out as £0.69/litre or £0.35/500mls of the finished product, compared to £0.45/500mls for white vinegar in Asda. I get through about 500mls/week, so save £0.10/week or £5/year. Not sure I'll do this again, particularly as I had to lug it all home from the office! But it was a useful experiment.
