Tesco won't take my coupon

I bought some Quattro razor baldes in Boots the other day and they have a £3 off voucher when I buy an 8 pack of the same blades. My wife went shopping in tescos the other day and I suggested she use this against our shopping. She presented the voucher(which is in date and valid) to the cashier who tried scanning it but to no joy. She then told my wife she couldn't use it as it didn't scan.
Thats not on is it? We didn't buy the product but I thought their policy was upto 3 non related purchase coupons per visit. Can they reject a coupon if it doesn't scan?

I wouldn't have thought that was right, i've known tesco to manually type in the barcode, although it does actually need to be done by a cashier that is not bone idle, if i were you i'd phone customer services and querie this as i think you just got a lazy cashier, then you can go in store armed with all the ammo you need for next time, or cust services may even reimburse (however it's spelt) you for the inconvenienceRunning total for swagbucks - £270 since Jan
Running total for superpoints -:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Do Tesco actually sell the product? I believe that they will only take the coupon if they stock it (you don't have to buy it though)Registered Childminder and mum of three.

They are within their rights not to accept it if you haven't purchased it.
But you continue moaning anyway.0 -
daveboy,
does that not go against their coupon/voucher policy?
I'm sure it has been posted around many times that their policy is to accept coupons even if you don't buy the item.
Can anyone tell me what their customer services say?
many thanks and thanks for all the replies already.0 -

Here you go  it's from an email reply I received from themThank you for your email.
Any coupons, which display the Tesco logo, are Tesco specific. We only accept these if the products referred to on the coupons are purchased. This is because we negotiate savings with our suppliers on the condition that these actual products will be purchased.
With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to accept one, even if you have not purchased the product. However, the coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one identical coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products.
This also applies to coupons printed from the Internet. However, these will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain our policy.0 -

woot!! thanks for thanking me!
The only thing with that standard email reply from Tesco is that there is ambiguity over whether "we will accept one" refers to a single coupon for a product which isn't bought or each type of coupon...0 -
I was wondering after checking out the above policy, I received vouchers from pampers in increments of 5 pounds per pack in a competition, we have the ones we need, would tesco therefore accept these as payment towards other goods as they stock the item on the voucher ?!?
Please help - bit confused (easily done - LOL)0 -
Why not just go back to Boots and buy the refill pack? As others have pointed out it is more than likely that Tescos do not stock the particular item therefore the voucher is useless in their shop.
Just a thought for you ... everybody is going on about ways of wangling a few extra money off vouchers through a system. OK, shops say they will accept them and it is in good MSE tradition to use what you can ... no issue on that. If however too many people start whinging and gurning at the checkouts and pushing and bending those rules beyond breaking point then all that is going to happen is that the stores will simply say 'it is not worth the hassle' and they will cancel this additional service to the point that you must prove or they will check that you bought particular items (i.e. enforce the wording on the vouchers that you are using - they all make it clear that you can only get the money off if you purchase their item).
I am not sure about this but someone once told me that a shop does NOT have to accept any vouchers ... if it does then it is doing you a favour ... don't abuse it.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Tesco's do stock the item in question Ivan.
I'm afraid your last post is somewhat patronising.
Exactly who are you to say what we should and shouldn't do? These big multi-national conglomerates who can well afford the £3 in question. In a year I spend almost £5k with them so to take a stance that you have is rather narrow minded and not at all in the spirit of this website.
Stores extend their coupon acceptance schemes to get us into the store - its not something for nothing. You will never see the day that stores stop accepting coupons for items you don't purchase. The store does get the money back from the supplier (they don't have to send in their receipt to prove it either!)
Have you thought of a career in Tesco PR?
If you have a coupon - use it!!!0
