  • Contact your local leisure centre, they are bound to run courses of lessons!
  • You can ask someone who already can swim to give you some leasons.
It isn't that hard once you know the basic.

Almost all local swimming baths run swimming lessons.. you can choose one that is not local to you ....

Can you go reasonably early when most people are at school/work? Less chance of being recognised? Give the swimming baths you are willing to travel to a call see if there is anything they can do to help lesson wise now as i know most have a waiting list for lessons but you would have a better chance if you could go during the day.

Have you been to the pool and tried swimming or go at the pool side and try pushing your self through the water, the idea with swimming is to keep to the top of the water and keep you body straight or hold on to the side and start kicking, you could probably teach yourself with the right pointers;)

Hey Acid, don't worry! If you go to lessons, everyone will be in the same boat - so to speak!!!

I started lessons (at an advanced age!!!) after being ashamed to be sitting on the beach while my son was frollicing in the waves!

That was nearly 15 years ago - and I'm still going to lessons! Sure, I can now swim but the friendships I made have got stronger as the months have gone by.

And it's a reason for regular exercise. Although I admit that the calories go back on at the pub afterwards!!!

As suggested above, ring the leisure centre - or check it out online.
