Hi everyone
Happy New Year to you all yh I know its the 21st of the month.
2008 has started off really well actually, The letters have died down and its nice to have money again. I have planned a holiday in May with my partner and I so can't wait.
Opening an account was relatively easily, but its only cash card account.
Can anyone give me any other accounts I can have with a card that can be used in shops and online.
At the moment I have the convienience of using my dads account and its lovely but I have to give it back. This chip and pin thing is good but before I get done for using the card in shops as its in my dads name I would rather get my own.
I have tried to open an account with the Co-op and they keep messing me about. But are there any others.:D

Hi Ann,
The Co-op is the best one, as it comes with a debit card, so in your shoes I'd grit your teeth & try to persevere with them. Other than that, try Barclays. You'll find more info in this sticky.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

problem with barclays they only offer a cashcard so you wouldnt be able to use online etcWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

Glad things are still going well.
While you are undischarged the Co-op is pretty much the only option for an account with a debit card.
The occasional person has had some luck with other accounts, but not reliably so.
There are plenty of pre-paid Mastercard/Maestro cards out there now which are accepted in most places. Search the forum for "prepaid cards" and there are plenty of threads discussing the various ones available.
I would keep trying with the Co-op though, since I can't see any reason why you shouldn't be OK for the account.
Once you are discharged a few more options open up, but even then it can be a bit hit and miss.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks
I did go to Co-Op and get an account open in principle. U see where I live I have 2 different post codes. I was told my post code was on thing and giving people that post codes, but things like my BT bill come with a different post code. As well as some people think I'm a Miss and others use Ms.
Co-op are quite fussy about getting the right information, I have to take a bills with the same information on them or I'll never get the account open.
I'm checking out getting a pre-paid credit card too. At least I can't get myself into trouble, not that I intend to anyway.;)
