Council Tax Comparison Tool

Hey gang,

I just found out that on the Office for National Statistics website you can see how many properties are in each band in your very local area, and your Council area. Apologies if I'm telling people old news.

Go to http://neighbourhood.statistics.gov.uk/

Then put in your postcode, select Super Output Area, and press search. A map of your very local area should appear at the right hand side - check that this looks right!

Scroll down and click on "Housing", then on the next page on "Key Figures for Housing".

From this I have found out that my flat is the nicest property in the whole area, apparently, as 7% are Band A, 47% Band B, 27% Band C, 16% Band D, and 3% Band E. We have been placed in F, along with 0.0% of other local properties.

How about you?

As well as seeing how far out you are, this might be useful for seeing how highly valued a poshed neighbouring area is if the Valuation Agency try to use a property in it for comparison - they have done this in my area in the past.

Also, it took me a while to find out that you can read the decisions of your local tribunal to get an idea how they think, by putting your postcode in here: http://info.valuation-tribunals.gov.uk/ - obviously everyone else knows and I'm slow, but thought I'd mention again!
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

Marvellous. My original listing was done by a woman but yes, it's the same office. Oh well, two and a bit months of a possible six now expired before it goes to a tribunal!

Might be a good idea, when time permits to post your text of 5.56pm to www.polltax.co.uk

Feel certain that it would be very useful to those who read that particular site. Must admit that I had no idea of the breakdown percentages of those A to H bandings - quite staggering when you analyse them!!!

PS: even though I supplied the LSG VOA with details of 6 one bedroom semis, I am still actively looking for just one that is almost identical to mine. Always best to have something in reserve when dealing with a Government Agency!!
