How can I work out the council tax I will have to pay on the new build house I am about to buy?

I understand it is based upon valuations in 1991 - how could I find this out?

My in laws bought new 3 years ago and their council tax was assessed using up to date bandings. They had moved round the corner from an older property of similar value and ended up doubling their council tax because the new property was assessed with the up to date valuation figures....sorry to give you bad news...

Can't you just ask the people selling it how much the council tax is?

Of course the the local council would know too.

You really don't need to work this out yourself - are you trying to prove they've banded it incorrectly? The values are all being reassessed anyway - they've just finished Wales and they're starting on England.

Try THIS if you put in the postcode of the house or one near it, then it should give you an idea

If it is a new build then the property would not be banded yet so the Council don't know how much to charge. The Valuation Office band the property - give them a call
