My husband does this all the time - he always buys boxes and there are always a few left. He's drunk out of date beer before with no ill effects, and a couple of times when it was really old (he'd left some in the shed!) I used it in cooking - carbonnade of beef, lovely, assuming that the heat of cooking would destroy any nastiness!0
