Overpaid Income Tax

My misses works two part-time jobs. Both of which paid her using a BR emergency tax code. For the 07/08 tax year they adjusted her code so that she would get the overpaid £539 back. However due to a change in hours the tax code allocation is with the employer where she earns the least amount of money (approx £2500k pa), and the higher paying job is still deducting tax from all her earnings.

I plan on asking the tax office to switch the code to the alternative employer, but really want the £539 back as a lump sum as that would clear an overdraft. Does the revenue have you return the money by cheque if I ask for it nicely?

thanks

I don't believe they will refund by cheque in the current tax year. Certainly not unless she stops working altogether.
