  • If I forget to soak beans then I boil water pour it over the dry beans, soak for an hour, disgard liquid, then bring beans to the boil, boil rapidly for 10 - 15 minutes and then simmer for another hour.
  • Hi - boil them hard for ten minutes, turn off the heat and then leave to soak for an hour in the hot water. Drain, then continue to use them as if you had soaked them overnight (ie they will need to be boiled again to remove toxins as per previous poster)

I have some dried kidney beans in my cupboard and hubby had decided he wants chilli tonight. Is there a quick way to do the beans for this evening or do they have to soak overnight?

    Hi kdean,

There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.

I agree, rockie4, its the 10.15 rolling boil that is essential......I think that you have covered that one QOTD.

You can use them today no problem.
I have been cooking them for years and it is so easy,
IF you have a pressure cooker.

Put beans into a large bowl.
Pour boiling water over, until bowl is nearly full.
Cover the bowl with a lid or large plate.
Leave to soak for ONE hour.
Transfer to pressure cooker and cook at high pressure for 20 mins.
Perfect kidney beans every time. And Safe to eat.
