Keeping details with keys

  • I don't know, if you think about that could be the most likely time you would lose them. You lock the front door, go to put the keys in your pocket/bag and miss, as my neighbour did.

I you don't have a lot of keys on the ring, and it falls onto something soft like a flower bed/lawn you might not hear them fall.

True, but we are never going to be able to cover all possible eventualities. Security is always a compromise between security and convenience.

In my case, if I did this, I would realise my error when I tried to unlock my car. If I even then did the same with the car door, I would realise my error when I tried to start the car.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

We have tagged and labelled all our spare keys and they are stored in a locked metal key cabinet fixed to a wall somewhere in house. Each hook in the key cabinet has a number, and on the inside door of the key cabinet is pasted a list of which keys are stored on each hook. And the key to the key cabinet is stored elsewhere. It's all very organised and now all are keys are in one place - for garage, spare house keys, spare car keys, keys for holiday suitcases, etc.

Check your insurance policy to make sure it's still valid. Some won't cover you if the keys are "readily available" (whatever that means) and some want a lock cabinet of a certain specification.

Remember, that most thieves want to be able to carry stuff out of a door - so getting in to a property is relatively easy. What they look for is a way to get out, via an exit door.

I attach the small tesco club card keyring. Any honest person finding them will take them to tesco where they will trace you through the bar code.
