My son will be 9 in a couple of weeks and has decided on a Hornby train set as he wants to play it with his grandad who is well into trains. Anyone know of any really great deals on at the mo, would really appreciate any help. many thanks xx

£37.25 delivered is the best price i could find for a basic set, (Only 1 left!)though that's the beauty of Hornby, to start with a set like this and get additional parts as you go on.

Can I recommend as an addition to a basic set the Hornby Railroad collection - these are ex-designs (such as Lima) moulds and lack some detail of the top-end engines and carraiges, but means you can get a flying Scotsman for under £50 and a good breakdown set.
Hornby is slowly reducing the number of non DCC sets now, as he is 9 and probably going to be interested in using the set and possibly expanding his own the goods yard DCC set has been seen reduced - I'll have a look for it.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!
