Newbie cooker! what do i do with this food I am cooking? mini panick!

Hi all,

My first batch of 'batch freezable cooking' is curently over cooking on the cooker. My idea was to make 1) a spag bol 2) a chicken caserole usng left overs of course (first time i've saved food !) and 3) sausage caserole.

To me this is really good money saving right and quite simple.

Well, after a day with a 5 year old at the history musuem coming back then cooking for over 4 hours now seems like a bad idea!

Any how this is my situ at mo....

cold sausages still in george foreman.
a smallish amount of cold chicken on a plate
spad bol balanced on the side of the sink to cool down
a canned of open beans
1 sauspan prob over cooked with boiled potatoes and swede
2 other sauspans over ful with a combo of carrotts, leeks and parsnips.

to cook these delights i have:
3 pans - in use,
3 working hob rings
1 medium caserole dish - no lid,
1 plastic container again no lid
some sandwich bags - i'm now thinking that freezing caserole in freezer bags wont work!

Also, i have some orange /red looking lentils - do you think i should put them in with the sausage caserole. if so how?

oh and now my contact lens is playing up.

must go save the food...and my vision!

what would you do?

  • Also,

If i am going to freeze this can i not bother with the oven part, just mix it up in the pan?

Also, should veg really o in a sausage caserole - will it have the smooth consistancy of the beans and sauce etc then the juicy/wet texture of veg. is that a bit strange?

being lazy i know but i am tired!

Think I would have either waited until your little one was in bed tonight or in school tomorrow.

But congratulations on your original motivation :T - at least you're making the effort. Do you have a SC? - you could perhaps have put it on to do at least one of the dishes while you were out amusing your dd. If you'd done a large amount, you could have had some for your evening meal tonight and then frozen the remainder for another day :j .

But good luck - you'll get there ;)
  • Luckily the five year old is my nehew who has been handed back now.

Amazingly, I cooked a different meal for dinner tonight.

    What i have done is:

piled the veg up in one pan and emptied the potatoes onto a oven tray (!) that meant i had two empty pans, i then divided the pot's from the tray into the two pans, pus saus/chicken in the divided the veg and added sauces. voila! so i thought...

I then added the beans which made the pan overflow. so i emptied my (in storage) potatoes from my caesrole dish and poured the bean mixture into that.

that means i am currently cooking my whole chicken caserole in a pan. one cooked i am going to leave in the pan in the cooker over night and but some plastic tubs tomorrow.

All i ahve to do now is find space in the freezer!

This is definatley a lesson learnt!
