Help! I need to cancel an old index credit card

Please help...My sister has an old Index credit card with no balance but a £3500 credit limit. She seriously needs to improve her credit rating to be able to clear debt on other cards so this card must be cancelled. She has called the number on card(which is answered as Littlewoods Personal Finance) but it is impossible to speak to a real person and they just keep you endlessly on hold (it's not a free number either).

I have tried Littlewood's catalogue and Littlewoods on-line but no help there either. I even tried Barclays because someone suggested they might now own Littlewoods but again no luck.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

If there's no balance on the card, why would it be a problem?

Anyway, have a look on www.saynoto0870.com for alternative numbers - there are a few listed that might be better for you.

  • Spend on the card then wait for the statement to come in, that should have some up to date contact infomation about the finance company behind the card.

    Just a thought.

If you do a credit check, it should bring up all the current credit and store cards you have. It should also give you contact details for each on. Might be worth a go?

Phone littlewoods enquiry line and ask them to transfer you to the financial solutions/services number. If they say they dont know say the department that deals with credit cards and the department that deal with warranties. I used to work and they DO have a speed dial number they have which puts you directly to them. If they still insist on not putting you ask for a direct no - they will probably give you an 0870. Just locate the freephone/geographical number from the above site.
If you still have no luck ask to speak to a supervisor and explain your situation because the company is part of littewoods.

If you still have no luck let me know and il do some digging around as might have something at home

If she hasn't used this card in years there's a good chance it's been cancelled already. Most providers do it automatically.
On the rare chance it's still valid, if she's having a problem with credit, having a credit limit, with a zero balance will actually do her good, showing that someone is perpared to lend to her and she's not missed payments etc is a good thing. She doesn't need to cancell it to improve her credit, i'd just ignore it, shred the card and move on
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

ask for a reduction of the credit limit, the 3 months intrest free on all purchases is handy as hell on LXDIRECT credit cards & you cant get it easily today, Argos has the same via Barclaycard with Mastercard but I know people with 10yrs+ excellent credit files that Argos refused...........
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
