  • :rotfl: love the idea of sending them a letter of thanks:T
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

Halifax policy is not to allow a bankruptto have an account with them, they just close the account and send the account holder a cheque if they are in credit. Strong policy, and I am sure that they loss potential future business this way too.

I hope they do realise how petty they are , and I would certainly spread the word and boycott them.

They shut down my account overnight, but quite conveniently after my salary had gone in  5pm I check my balance - looks good , check my company website - see salary about to go in , all good , late that night, log on to Internet Banking ....... closed

I spent about 30 - 45 minutes on the phone the next morning, no luck of course, even though OR was happy to keep it.

On a side issue, I think the OR should be a bit more open when they talk about bank accounts, surely they know that banks such as HBOS will close down no matter what, so why go through the rigmarole of sending a covering letter.

Anyway I then phoned the Co-Op and 15 minutes later all sorted , two weeks later HBOS are history :j

They wasted more of their money sending me letters regarding my Home Insurance, I just ignored them so that wasted some more of their time and money ;)

And the best bit, some of you may know I was an IT Contractor working for a bank .... well it was HBOS :D and they kept me on as it would have been too much trouble to find a replacement, so I scr3w3d them for a few more pounds :p before leaving them not a moment too soon. See one of my other threads "People Like You" for a fuller story.

Anyway , I feel that the Co-Op is pretty shrewd with the way they handle "people like us" as surely the majority of us are going to be good boys and girls in the future :p They along with John Lewis will be in my favourites list once this is all behind me.

John Lewis - don't get me started. They have Westcott chasing me. They also were not interested in my I&E and wouldn't decrease my monthly payment. I had my JL card for 14 years without any overdue payments.

Halifax are the worst bank we have delt with, they don't give a stuff about their customers.

Do any of them give a stuff about their customers? I opened my Barclays account in 1989 and had never been overdrawn (over the overdraft limit anyway) and the one time I didn't have enough money for a direct debit they pounced on me with soooooo many charges.

  • No bank cares but some are better than others. Halifax phone DH's hospital ward and asked to speak to him when he was first ill to prove he was there. No other bank has ever from my experience sunk so low. They were the only one of our creditors to restart interest while we were on a payment plan, meaning we owed them more at the end than we did at the start.
In the end it got too much and we had to stop paying them for three months before they would pass it to a DCA to deal with.

I find this really interesting, because I had the opposite experience with my bank. I was allowed to go £500 over my overdraft limit before they even wrote to me to say they were going to start charging. Of course I had gone BR, but I was surprised that they were so willing to bank roll me.

That makes me feel even more bitter that after having 18/19 year good history with the bank they should be so harsh.

Because the OR has a duty to notiy the bank of the bankruptcy order, and the standard letter they send therefore covers this. Only HBOS has such a strict policy, the other banks tend to make a decision based on the individual account.
