Ideas needed - asap.

Morning all,

Haven't been around here for a few weeks, but I need your help and ideas please.:o

I have a total of six people round for dinner tonight (including me and dh) but our table only seats 4. So, I need ideas for food that can be put on the coffee table and managed on knees.

All I can think of so far is pizza, but wondered if you can think of anything better? Needs to be easy to make, and if it involves cheese it needs to be optional, as one guest can't bear melted cheese.

I'm off to the supermarket at about 12, so any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks all,

Metherer

  • I do similar for my family when there are too many to sit at table. I make a chilli, curry, stew or Morrocan style casserole with rice or potatoes or cous-cous which can be easily eaten with a fork, works well. For starters if following an Indian theme then bagees & samosas are easy, if you fancied a greek theme then stuffed vine leaves are good (and can also be bought ready made) followed by mousaka and Greek salad, etc. Hope you find some inspiration from somewhere and enjoy a good evening.

    Thanks all. Some great ideas.

I have asked DH which he prefers, and he agreed with me - Mattogier you're fab, thank you.

We can't do the tequila bit unfortunately - 2 drivers and a pregnant woman - but the rest sounds delish, and a bit different to the normal fare. DH has just got the chicken out of the freezer, and I'm off to get the rest shortly. Home raised chicken too.

    Thanks all,

Why not throw a couple of picinc blankets down that can be shaken out and washed as if you are anything like me I tend to over fill the tortillas and they end up dripping everywhere with sour cream oozing out of the corners especially if you are a newbie to them!

Have fun and put the pregnant one on a bean bag an watch the struggle!

Well don on the home reared chucks - will be doing that when I have finished the extension - are you allowed to slaughter yourself?

    Cheers

our dinning table seats 6 , 8 at a squeeze. so any time i have more than this coming.

i also make a huge pot of chilli , and serve with rice , tortilla chips , toritilla wraps and cheese. so everyone can help themsleves.

i often find all the men take theirs in to the lounge and play on x box or wii , and all us girls sit in the kitchen at the table, lol. then once eating finshed we all mix in the lounge.

but i do make sure there is always plenty of seating so if wanted we can all sit together.

This is exactly what we are doing tonight, only 5 of us but we don't have a dining table at all yet so there is going to be some acrobatics and probably lots of mess afterwards. Fajitas, burritos, nachos, spicy rice, corn on the cob, guacamole, sour cream and special salsa, all home made, no spice mixes or crap and I can't wait! :rotfl:Wish people would hurry up because I am making myself hungry thinking about it :D
