Returns Query - Wrong Printer in Box!

I bought my sister a lexmark wireless printer for Christmas - it was £100 special offer reduced from £120. When she opened it to set up it turned out to be a totally different model, not wireless etc! Never come accross this before!
When my sister went back to the shop to exchange it they had none in stock but were expecting some this weekend, but said she would have to pay the extra £20 as the special offer is no longer on.
She argued that it wasnt her fault they gave her the wrong printer, but the assistant wouldnt budge. Can they do this? I told her to get a refund and go elsewhere!

Never heard of charging extra for an exchange and I work in an argos store. I suggest she tries again, maybe another store as I suspect that the member of staff was giving incorrect information.Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards. Soreen Kierkegaard 1854.0

My dad got this last year, he ordered an hp all in one printer for £59 and ended up getting one that was listed for £149.
He never said anything though

If its not as described and what you paid for, you're entitled to ask for a replacement at no cost to yourself or a full refund....the fact that the promotion has ended is neither here nor there...they should have given you the right product and what you paid them for...you wouldn't expect having paid for a car to be given a bicycle would you? What they've done (imho) is misrepresented goods (albeit unintentionally) which your local trading standards may like to know about if you can be bothered...I bought my sister a lexmark wireless printer for Christmas - it was £100 special offer reduced from £120. unfortunately they have none left, as you can imagine argos selling them for double the price, they practically walked out of the door.Take every day as it comes!!0 -
I wonder if someone bought it and put a broken one in the box and got a refund? Or got the nicer wireless and put that in and got a refund.0

Thanks for all the replies. I took it back again and they replaced it no questions asked so all sorted - I did see the printers in Morrisons but they weren't the same model, they were wireless but didnt have the lcd display and had pretty poor reviews.0

oh rite, i thought it was the same printer, as the day morrisons started selling them, i was in argos and noticed somebody buying the same printer as the one in morrisons, but he paid £99.99 for it, so presumed as you said you paid £100 it was the same printer.Take every day as it comes!!0
