Hi
I have now mastered beef casserole and steak and kidney etc (:j ), but when I have cooked chicken in the slow cooker before now it has gone a bit stringy.
I usually put chicken breasts with veg (usually carrots, potatoes, swede etc.) in with a thick stock made from onions, stock and flour. What did I do wrong? Did I leave it in the slow cooker for too long or should I have diced the chicken breasts?
The slow cooker I had before now has been returned because it didn't work properly so that might have had something to do with it, but I wondered if this is a common problem?
Thanks

I've found that chicken breast is not great in the slow cooker - thighs seem to cook better (not sure why - because of the bone, or more fat in the meat?)
so save the expensive chicken breast for a quick meal and use cheaper cuts of meat insteadweaving through the chaos...0 -
Agree with phizzimum.
Chicken breast is not ideal for slow cooking. It's intended to be roasted or pan fried - relatively quickly.
Simply put - it's over-cooked! If you are really wanting to slow cook chicken breast, you'll need to add some fat to help baste it. But I think it will still go stringyWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
