Dried beans

Good Morning all,

A while ago my DD15 decided she no longer wanted to eat meat, she has never really liked it anyway, has always struggled with the texture. Anyway, my husband and i decided to support her and try this ourselves with brilliant results! We have never felt better and we have all lost weight and generally feel better for it, back to the point, I purchased some deluxe mix dried beans from H & B to try and I am currently boiling for 15 mins after soaking overnight then i have to change water and simmer for 90 minutes, my question is, when they have been cooked to instructions I will be using some of them in a chilli for tea tonight and would like to use the rest in other recipes later on, do i just store in the fridge until required or will i have to use them today in the dishes and freeze?? I find this dried bean business a bit confusing

Sorry this is a bit long winded but i need to get this right as beans and pulses are important for this type of lifestyle.

Thanks in advance

Michaela

We are in exactly the same position with dd. I have cooked a whole pack of bean mix and frozen them till ready to use. Chick peas (see other thread) as well.

  • You can keep them for 24 hours in the fridge.
If you are not using within 24 hours, freeze them.
To freeze put into suitable container e.g. margarine tubs, plastic boxes, strong poly bags.
You can then either defrost at room temp for cold dishes or add frozen to your dish of choice.
