direct debit taken early

I've just posted on the bank boards, but thought it needed a new post as well.
Basically have a SO due on Sunday, can't cancel it, but payment should come out Monday. Have been informed on the other board that money needs to be in to cover it by 3:30pm tomorrow.
I can't get it into the account by then as i work in a school, get 30mins for dinner and not mean't to leave the school. So more likely 4pm.
If my bank says this is too late and i'll get a charge for not having the funds available, can i claim this charge to be paid by my home ins who took the direct debit for them early??
I changed my home ins direct debit date to the 28th, yet they took it last Fri. I rang up and complained and they confirmed it shouldn't of been taken so are crediting my account, by Wed no money, so rang them, it won't be in my bank until Saturday.
Them taking this direct debit early is whats caused me to not have the funds for this SO on a working day. Though the bank account with have these funds plus the ones i put in tomorrow, before the payment comes out Monday.
Yet im lead to believe this will be too late......so if i do get a charge should i complain to my home ins company for causing this to happen, after all i did budget to include my SO and i would have the funds if it wasn't for the home ins.

Who do you bank with? If it is LTSB, you will be OK.
When did you change the insurance DD date to the 28th of the month? Did you give them enough time to change it before the "pull" was in the pipeline to take from your account last Friday?
I can't see how a refund would get to your account on Saturday. If the bank accept that Saturday is a working day and records refunds on a Saturday then it must be counting Saturday as a working day and your payment in on Friday afternoon will also be in your account before your Standing Order goes out.0 -

Why on earth would you think that .... what purpose does it serve?? Other than confusion.
The SO will not come out before Monday (from your duplicate post). So it's quite likely you need the funds in by close tomorrow. But you must have known you had a problem from last week? So should have invoked the DD Guarantee if you consider the Direct Debit was 'erroneous'. But, as LittleVoice correctly says, you needed to give the other company at least 10 days notice to vary the DD ... otherwise they haven't acted in error.
Get the money in at 1600hrs tomorrow - and check with them it will cover the SO? I suspect it will .... if not, persuade them!If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I dont bank with the tsb, im with natwest.
I made a new post because this is a seperate q, on the bank boards my 1st post was about the SO, this q about contacting the home ins company and i wanted to make them seperate.
I didn't know i had a problem until last Friday when suddenly my home ins was taken early. They had more than 10 days to change the date as i was reinstating the direct debit, they did ask me if they could process it within the next 14 days and i said no could i make it for the 28th and was told this was not a problem.
They have admitted repsonsibility, i spoke to the manager and he confirmed my phone call and bought up my account which said no payments until the 28th. He told me they'd credit my account asap, i didn't think it would take this long so wasn't worried about the SO.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
I was led to believe that the company is in charge of dates they take a DD out.under your instruction of course plus they take 2 week to set the date up usually.
But the difference is with a SO you are in control you can instantly ring up and change the date of a SO to the next day or any day of your choosing.
If in doubt cancel it and just ring the company and re set it up.0 -

That's the general theme ... but you need to get the change in at least 1 working day, normally, before the SO is due. The OP has posted on her other thread (hence my note re confusion) that her account needs 3 working days notice to vary .. so is too late.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
