Ginderbread question

I am going to attempt to make gingerbread, i havent made it before and been looking at a few receipes...

I havent heard of "dark muscovado sugar" can it be substituted for caster? or is it a brown sugar?

It's a brown sugar with quite a distinctive flavour so I don't think you could substitute it with caster sugar. maybe brown suggar and add a bit extra treacle???

I wouldn't substitute a white sugar in gingerbread. The dark sugar really contributes to the distinctive taste of gingerbread. You could sub soft dark brown sugar for the muscavado though.
