Microwave in 30 secs

Hi All, wonder if anyone's got any ideas?
DS has announced that instead of soup or sandwiches at lunchtime, he wants stuff in a sandwich box that he can heat up in a microwave. Easy, you might think? Well yes, except it mustn't take more than approx 30 secs to heat - due to the fact that lots of people want to use the microwave at the same time. Most ready made pasta lunchboxes seem to take between 5 - 7 mins, so I'm thinking that HM pasta/lasagne etc will take much the same, so has anyone any suggestions please? Also, must be very MSE! Thanks.

I think he is asking for the impossible! 30 seconds doesn't even warm up half a cup of coffee so I can't help. Could he and some friend share the microwave time - ie on person bring a dish in a day and share that dish? Or each person have the microwave for a bit longer but only once a week? Or put in to buy another microwave?

Cooked cold jacket potato takes approx 2 mins.
Soup usually takes 2-3 mins
Even "instant" packet rice takes 2 minsworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Might be stating the obvious here but couldn't he have lunch just before or after everyone else ?
Do they really have to have lunch all at the same time ?0 -
I don't think it's possible either - Mine always takes 2.5 min, even on high power to heat up. Would a food flask be an option - then he wouldn't have to heat it at all.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

I think you'd be able to 'warm' something so it's safely warm, but I am doubtful a meal would be safe to eat as it should be 'piping hot through' before serving.
Only thing I can think of is a toastie, you might manage to melt the cheese in 30 seconds.
Other alternative is take a flask with food in. Or telling him to stick his 'demands' where the sun doesn't shine as it's just about impossible. He must not know much about cooking. One day I might be more organised...........

Actually, I think a food flask might be an answer.! Also, a cooked jacket spud - with a pat of butter and we'll try a toastie to heat up as well. Cheers folks, I knew you'd have some ideas. I'm sure a couple of minutes would be OK, but definitely not 5- 7 mins.
They do have to have their lunchbreaks at the same time I'm afraid. It wasn't really a "demand" - I think he was trying to save me from making sarnies every day....0 -
Not sure about the exact times, but if you put three containers of pasta ( for example) in the microwave, it doesn't take three times the cooking time of one. IYSWIM
So, in the spirit of sharing a bath with a friend in a draught, could some peeps share the cooking time in the microwave?0 -
this looks good for your hubby http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermos-Microwavable-Flask-Black-0-47L/dp/B000OW2HV4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=gateway&qid=1200861386&sr=8-1 he could zap it in the micro when its not so busy.proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0
