should i take out breakdown cover?

Options
i am going to be buying a new fridge freezer soon - should i take out the extra warranty with it? i think i recall martin saying on many of his interviews that these arent worth the paper they are wrote on and not to bother - if this is the case what happens if the goods break?

thanks

    1. Even if you decide to buy it never buy it from the retailer. You can buy it much cheaper elsewhere.
    2. Check your credit cards. Some of them offer free 1-year extended warranty if used for the purchase.

I never buy the insurance as its very expensive. Check out the manfacturers warranty that comes with the product. This is often more than the minimum year everyone has to give you.
At the cheaper end of the range it is actually cheaper to use stuff until it breaks then throw it away and buy another.

At the more expensive end of the range you can get free 5 (2, 10) year parts & labour guarantee:

I would say you should be 'self-insured' ie don't take out the extended warranties adn just buy a new one if the old one breaks (or pay for a repair).

You can buy a DVD player for £25 - you probably couldn't even get an 'estimate for repair' for that price!!!

I agree with the above. If it is going to break down it will probably do it in the first year, then it's free anyway. Products are so cheap now, that unless it is really expensive, you had just as well replace it anyway.
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

ok thanks - youve all been such a help....i did have an extended warrranty on my cooker and it broke within one month of the warranty ending - i caused such a fuss and that - writing to local paper and so on - eventually i ended up getting a replacement, so, if anything does happen i will just shame them into replacing it....thanks
