Yeah, but that player doesn't support wma out of the box though!!
In the blurb it says that you can download firmware upgrades that may allow it to play other formats but I haven't looked into it yet so at the moment unless there is a fw upgrade available, you can't play wma files!!

The firmware CAN be upgraded on the player and this will allow support for wma files!!

Just tested mine earlier and it's sounds ok.Anyone else find any MP3's on their player when they connected it? (The box hadn't been opened so I can only assume they were dumped on the player at the factory)

so in wma format, are you guys saying that it effectively can become a 256mb player?0

Yes, effectively it becomes a 256mb player. My Key015 is a 512mb one but using WMA format I've got about 20 albums on it.
Just checked out the Philips website for the specs:- CLICKY and they are all WMA compatiable out of the box.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Hi
The amount of music you can fit into a player depends on the quality that it is saved at - so for MP3s you can choose to save it at 96K or 128K etc etc. The higher the number, the better the quality, the bigger the track (you get fewer of them in a fixed space). Then there is the format - WMA, MP3, OGG etc. These work differently when saving music and if you google them you'll find lots of comparison info. WMA can also be saved (encoded) at 96K, 128K etc etc.
There is a lovely free program to help you save your CD music for your digital player at this link: AudioGrabber which will let you try different formats and sizes so you can see what works for you!
Not all players play all formats, of course. But if they play a format, (like WMA) they will play both low quality and high quality encoded files. You choose the one you like
Then there is fixed bit rate and variable encoding. Fixed bit rate uses one size (e.g. 96K) for the whole track regardless of the fact that some parts of the track are silent, some are simple (just one instrument) and some are complicated. Variable bit rate uses a smaller size for the simple stuff and a higher bit rate for the complex stuff, on average ending up with a smaller file which sounds better overall :T
There is a guide to using a free variable rate MP3 encoder (from the LAME project) which works with AudioGrabber on the left of this linked page: Tom's Ripping Guide
Enjoy :T

Cheers for this post - it looks like a good deal, and 512mb is more useable than 128mb. I've ordered one - will report back if it's dodgy!!!0 -
Just got mine at lunchtime (Edinburgh branch) they had ran out when I called on Monday, but just got another delivery this morning.
Worth pointing out that they put up the price to £24.95 (supply and demand I suppose) :rolleyes:I'm only here for the banter0 -

If you had told them that you had seen it on the website for £19.99 they would have honoured that price.
When I bought mine in Liverpool he originally qoted £24.95, he said that was the normal shop price, however if anyone had seen it advertised on the internet or had the e mail they would sell for that price.
The £5 is better in your pocket.
Incidentally my son is delighted with his. Downloaded music from an easy to use site ***edited*** and just dragged them into the MP3 box.
Tried to use the software from Phillips but couldn't get my head around it.
