Sorry Quillion, as others have said its a con. There's loads of threads on MSE & elsewhere on t'interweb about them.
The people that phoned you are actually a different company to the timeshare one, but they get paid to get people to attend the prize award 'presentation' (using things like the reference code in Paula's post above). Whereas the average Joe would think that means receiving a prize, in this weird set up, it means listening for 2 - 4 hours to a timeshare presentation talk. As for getting the 'free' prize, you have to pay an admin fee (so its not free then is it) and there's no guarantee you'll get the destination you choose let alone the dates - some people find they are cancelled & re-arranged with just a few days notice after waiting 9 months.
Assuming you've not succumbed to the sales pitch but still decided to pay them for a 'free' holiday, when you get to your destination you are subjected to an even longer and more grueling sales pitch.
What I don't get it how these people can discrimate so blatently - why can't divorced or gay people win these "wonderful" holiday prizes? Or senior citizens?
Just ignore the viral marketing contribution to this thread, don't even bother calling them or attending any of the presentations or paying the admin fee. If you call, the 1st company will make some money from the referral. If you pay the admin fee, it subsidises CLC and keeps them going whilst they try and find someone to sign up for their full timeshare (at a lifetime cost of £150k according to another thread).
Much better to look for holiday saving tips on here and enter real competions rather than this underhand marketing ploy. From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

I was actually stopped in Tenerife Airport by a man and woman (in departures making them airside and - hence - permitted by airport authorities) stating that they were doing a survey on individuals who had completed their holiday to try and improve attractions and service to other prospective holidaymakers from the UK. I was informed at the time that I would be in a prize draw and may win a holiday to come back to the Canaries. I did notice at the time that they DID NOT stop my unmarried sister-in-law or my father and mother in law (in their late 60's) or uncle and auntie in laws (yep that must have been some holiday eh!?) also in their late 60's. This popped up a little flag as a bit descriminating which appears to be deliberate since, in hindsight, they were targetting potential suitable "clients/(victims?)" for thier time-share seminars. A month later and I have "won" and received a call from CLC agents informing me that I have won a weeks holiday for four people and am given the above number (08009889900) along with an application reference. Checking this out BEFORE I phoned may have been prudent because it would appear that dates/destinations are not guaranteed and bookings can be cancelled or reassigned with very little notice - not good if you trying to land on a school holiday!. Additionally the UK based sales pitch is frequently noted by some people as being only one of two 2-4hr pitches you will receive. I don't doubt that the "free" holiday would still be cheaper by a fair margin than even a last-minute-deal holiday but what price your liberty? Take into account your time, hastle, (weak will?), fuel travelling to seminar, future harrassment etc. Even the positive comments which appear here and there could be posted by CLC representatives themselves.... who knows. I'm just going to stand aside because (as another commenter has said) free cheese usually is in a mousetrap. I have no doubt that timeshare has changed from its bad rap of the 80's and 90's but I can't help but think that we perpetuate a disreputable industry which will never gain credibility as long as sales tactics such as these are adopted. At the end of the day SOMEONE is paying for your "freebie"... how do you know it won't actually be you? - refer to JipJip1's linked Guardian article if you still have any doubts.0

I just had this phone call from a 'Margaret'. I said I didnt realise I did a survey, she said 'Yes back in March', I only started MSE end of October and told her she had her facts wrong and I thought it was a scam. She hung up immediately.0
