I make home made steak and kidney pie (using my trusty slow cooker). It is more expensive, but I couldn't compare it to a shop bought pie

Sorry to be thick, do you mean you cook steak and kidney in the slow cooker then make it into a pie, or you can make a steak and kidney pie IN the slow cooker, if so how do you do it please

The bought pie I'll be did not have a can of guinness in it thats why it would be so cheap = take the guinness out and it will be just as nice and cheaper
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

After watching Jamie Oliver's eat to live on wed night, I am convinced that making your own food is 100% better for you.

You don't know what amount of salt thats in shop made, too much salt intake is giving us all high blood pressure and the amounts of preseravatives are horrendous:eek:

by making your own pie with own pastry , you know exactly whats in it.
I usually make my own shortcrust pastry and then use left chicken and mushrooms and make a simple white sauce, all of this is cheap and most importantly we know what we are eating:D

    Hi purpleivy

How funny you should mention pizza - I was thinking of making pizza this weekend. Do you have a dough recipe that you would recommend? I am looking for one I can make by hand because I am thinking of getting rid of my breakmaker.

I make the steak and kidney in the slow cooker, then put it into a pie dish (or freeze into individual portions) with puff pastry (just on top), then in the oven. I am happy to share the steak and kidney recipe if anyone wants it?

I am half way through watching Jamie's programme and I am so glad I make so much of our own food. It is shocking how much goes into shop bought food. Don't get me wrong - I am no saint - I do buy shop bought food, but make the majority myself. This has just encouraged me even more to make more of my own food - and as I mentioned before, my family prefer it and that's enough for me :)
