Maybe not but lots of HLs SIPPs appear to use their MM funds. They myth of SIPPs being cheapest and best fools too many people. They then blow the advantages by picking totally inappropriate funds.

Well, there's no chance of that from me. I don't go for MM funds either ;)

I will almost certainly be looking at a range of funds from companies like Invesco perpetual, Neptune, Artemis, etc, and I think therefore that the SIPP is right for me. I've called up HL and asked if they'll allow me to transfer in under the £5k limit, and they seemed happy enough because of my being an existing customer and because I plan to contribute further to it.

I think this is likely to be my best bet, especially as I like to rebalance my portfolio on occasions and change my strategy from time to time, so a flat fee for switching funds wouldn't suit me at all (can't remember who that was with, but I'm sure I saw a couple of those today!). I'll probably end up making a fair few changes until I'm happy with where it is, after which I might review the fund selection every 6-12 months depending on my mood.

All in all i think I'm following a reasonable strategy, and I think I've gained enough information from the two of you to be happy in my own solution.

    Thanks again!
