North West London - dry cleaning help

My local dry cleaners is very expensive (or at least I think so - around 7 pounds for a short dress seems like a lot).

Any recommendations?

    Buy washable clothes?

More seriously, you can buy sheets which you put in your tumble drier with dry clean only clothes. I am not sure if they would get things as clean as 'proper' dry cleaning, I think they advise you to spot clean first.

And if you've got something you don't mind losing, try washing it on a gentle programme. A bit trial and error, don't do it with your best dress!

Another thought, some laundrettes USED to have DIY dry cleaning machines. Full of dire warnings about the possible dangers of using them, so they've possibly been withdrawn on H&S grounds. But maybe worth looking out for.

Of course you don't get things pressed afterwards with either of the methods I've suggested.
