Frozen Polock Fillets

Cant resist a bargain. Bought some frozen pollock fillets from Lidl - £1.99 down from £2.99.

Just one thing, how to I prepare and cook them? Anyone got any ideas? I've got plenty of crusts off loaves in the freezer so could possibly breadcrumb them?

  • I have done them the following way - defrost then spread a teaspoon of low cal salad cream on top of each fillet (sounds weird but works!) then mix up some breadcrumbs, a little grated parmesan and herbs (I have used both fresh and dry - depends what I have in), press over the top and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake in the oven for approx 10 mins

Oh I had pollock just the other day - didn't bread it or anything just lightly fried it in a bit of extra virgin olive oil, then dressed it with a lemon juice and had it with freshly cooked spinach and carrots. YUMMY and healthy> :)

I love pollack and wish that I could get it fresh...I know that the Atlantic and Irish sea is teeming with it but have never been able to buy it ...apparently export is more profitable.

I would treat it as cod, but I particularly like it poached...cover with cold water to which you have added a bit of onion, bayleaf, herb fennel or parsley if you haven't got fennel...bring slowly to boil, turn off heat and allow to cool in water...makes a delicious salad.

i also bought these last week from lidl. What a bargain! Defrosted some reduced bread, whizzed it into breadcrumbs in the food processor with some dried seasoining. I rolled the pollock in egg, then the breadcrumbs and fried lighlty in olive oil and had it with some chips and salad.

Tomorrow will be havng the same with sweet potato fries. Yum yum!
