Hi all,
I'm after some advice please. I had planned to go to football on January 2nd and had bought train and match tickets. Due to the overrunning engineering works which cancelled the trains, I was left unable to go. I contacted thetrainline (who I bought the train tickets from) and asked for a refund and mentioned about the match tickets as well. At first they refunded me £115 which was the train ticket price less a £10 administration fee ! I spent the weekend emailing them to point out the error of their ways and they have eventually agreed to refund the £10 admin fee. I have told them they are liable for my match tickets as well but they aren't budging on this. Curently I am down about £65 for my unused match tickets. Can anyone tell me, can I claim this back as I couldn't attend the match due to the engineering works ?
Thanks for reading.

Car, bus, Taxi. The train is not the only way of getting to the football. You could have got to the match another way even though the train was not running. It may not have been possible for you to get to the game another way in your situation. (no bus, don't drive, taxi to expensive ECT) but other travel options are there.Come on you Irons0

Agree with Zinger, also I would be surprised if there is not a clause excluding liability for consequential losses.Gone ... or have I?0

why did u contact trainline for the refund?? last i checked they dont run trains companies, just sell their tickets? why didnt u head straight to said rail company u were supposed to use, e.g, Virgin. that way u woulda got a full refund PLUS free rail vouchers.
also how on earth would they be liable to refund you the match tickets price? did they host the match?! if u wanted to go that bad you coulda used another form of transport! yes u woulda had to pay out maybe more money but u woulda claimed ur rail refund...0 -
If you book through TheTrainline you are supposed to send your tickets back to them. I got told this by Midland Mainline when they had a franchise.Gone ... or have I?0

Hi, just to clear something up about the thread topic. Network Rail do not operate any trains, any refunds, train ticket related issues are the responsibility of the train operating companies. They should be organising alternative travel arrangements (ie: replacement bus services, etc) if engineering works interrupt any service.
All Network Rail do is related to the actual infrastructure, not the trains.
Thought I'd just clear that up0 -
Trainline automatically insure all the journeys they sell tickets for via Columbus (£1 each way). Did you remove that on the booking? If not there are some consequential benefits in there, if they're the same T&Cs I once read several years ago.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

As stated in the t&c's from trainlines website:
We are not responsible for indirect losses which happen as a side effect of the main loss or damage, or that are not reasonable or foreseeable by you and us (such as loss of profits or loss of opportunity), even if we are made aware of the possibility of such losses. Our liability shall not, in any event, include losses related to any business of yours, such as lost data, lost profits or business interruption.
So very unlikely you'll get anything else back form them
