Private Traffic Warden Scam

Just when you think that you've heard everything....
There is a Private Parking Warden Company operating in the Campus of University of Hertfordshire.
You might think that you get a parking ticket, pay the £15 fine, that's it. Move on
No.
Not with this company.
Each time you illegally park they double the previous penalty - up to £120
The trouble is they have twice issued tickets unneccessarily and although they have both been withdrawn, my car is on their database, and if it is parked incorrectly again the next penalty stands at £60.
You couldnt make it up!

park up at the halls/Roberts Way and walk down ( are the halls car parks still there?) it's only a quick jog, and downhill!
As for the fine increases, I think that's a fantastic idea in principle. Repeat offenders, anywhere, should incur higher fines. In this case, the system just needs tweaking so that if a fine is found to be unjust, the vehicle is put back down a 'level'.

If I don't reply to you, I haven't looked back at the thread.....PM me0 -
Definitely not a scam. If you don't like paying the fine, then don't break the rules. The land belongs to the Uni, so it is up to them what parking policies they impose.0

Less money for you to get sloshed.
Sounds good for the local residents then0 -
Aaagh, I couldnt understand why you were not all with me on this.....
I can see that while I was venting my spleen I forgot to indicate that the car was parked in an area where there was
NO restrictions
NO no parking signs
NO yellow lines or hashed areas
NO warning that fines were increasing
I forgot to mention also that the issuing company had already agreed to waive the fine beacuse of these facts, but had just forgotten to advise their solicitors.
..........PS They have also just admitted that there is a lot of construction on campus and that the parking restrictions ARE unclear, parking in that location is acceptable providing access to others is not restricted....AND all penalties have been waived.
And by the way.....its not ME parking incorrectly.....it's my student son so if it was him getting the bills I wouldnt mind, but it seems to be down to me for some reason.
Do I get your sympathy NOW??0 -
I think where you went wrong first time was in your sentence "......parked incorrectly again......", which I certainly took as an admission that it was incorrectly parked before although I was puzzled as to why the fines were waived in that case.
Presumably this company are enforcing parking on the campus as agents for the university (otherwise they can't do it) so a letter of complaint to the uni seems in order.
I don't understand why the fines are down to you. Even if the car is in your name, you should make your son aware they are his responsbility and he should pay them. If the car is not in your name, then I cannot see any reason for anyone to expect you to pay the fines.0
