daily clicks and cashback

How do daily clicks work?
1. The retailer pays the affiliate network £x for every visitor it send them
2. The affiliate network keeps a part of that money and pays the rest to one of it's affiliates for every visitor they send to the retailer.
3. The affiliate (cashback site) keeps part of the money it got from the affiliate network and pays the daily clicker to click through to the retailers site.
Start again
1. The retailer gets 1000 visitors, all sent by the cashback site.
2. The retailer doesn't want to pay for all these visitor as not one actually bought anything.
3. The retailer says to the affiliate network "your system sent me 1,000 visitors? Sorry mate, my system only tracked 500 so I'm only paying you for 500 visitors".
4. The affiliate network gets paid for 500 visitors.
5. The affiliate network does not want to pay the affiliate for 500 visitors, so he says "You sent 1,000 visitors? Sorry mate, our system only tracked 250 visitor, so that's all we are paying you for"
6. The affiliate (cashback site) does not want to pay it's users for all the clicks, so says "You did 1,000 clicks Sorry mate, only 125 clicks tracked so that's all we are paying you for"
In other words, daily clicks consist of a retailer paying a large amount of money for visitors, and those visitors getting paid peanuts because of the people in between robbing them.
Sorry, it's called "not tracking", and I know the money is only "a bonus if you get it", but the retailer pays whether it tracks back to you or not and one of the middle men gets the money.0 -

I think from all Geordie Joe's words above that it really isn't worth it, does anyone else think like that or is it me being a bit too sceptical? If not I'll stop wasting any more time and just say good bye to what I've earned so far rather then building it up more....only to possibly lose it all. If that makes sense).

Geordie Joe is a real cynic, facts are its pennies for hours of work but its all relative. I do it towards driving down my debt and in that context £10 is £10 and better than nothing. So I maybe only get £10 for a months clicking away and if there was something more lucrative to do, like STP, I'd use my time that way. As part of an overall strategy of debt reduction it has its place but like all businesses, it evolves, and right now the pickings are lower than they once were - so I keep my eyes open for whatever pickings there might be out there. In general my strategy changes constantly as I discover new things on MSE and that other site which can not be named; so to answer your question - its worth it dependant on a ratio between how much you value your time and how desperate you are and if you enjoy it. Its your choice but I think Joe is being particularly cynical as much as certain posters (With hard won referal traffic to keep motivated) have come over as overly optimistic about the earnings that are possible - the truth is somewhere between the two.how do your clear your cookies between searches?
You can get a little programme free called Cookie Cleaner. You can tell it any cookies you want left alone and then just run it between sites. I've found it to be very good for me.0 -

It's got nothing to do with being a cynic. My words come from experience of being on both sides of the fence.
My experience of being a "merchant" and paying people for the visitors they sent to my site. Then logging onto my affiliate network account and deleting clicks at random to keep my costs down.
If you visit some of the affiliate forums you will quickly realise all merchants do this to some extent or another.
I also dabbled with buying a cashback site script in November 2006. I found a site that acted as a go-between, between programmers and web masters. I posted a message saying I wanted one of these scripts and got half a dozen replies.
The scripts varied in price, depending on how much of the work they did, automatic payments and account updating etc. But the one selling point they all had was the ability to set the percentage of clicks that would track back to the user.
Set that to 80% and 8 out of 10 clicks would track back to the user, and the other 2 would just track to the site owner.
A couple also mentioned the ability to remove the users name/ID number from the reports you get from the affiliate network before they are fed into the system. Allowing you to pick and choose which clicks and purchases the user gets paid for, and which you get to keep all the money for.
Next time you are visiting cashback sites hover your mouse over the links and check the URL in the status bar. Some show you the real URL you will go to if you click the link, and you should see your user name or ID number in the link, usually at the end.
Others don't allow you to see the URL you will go to if you click the link. Instead of going to the retailers site the link sends you to a script on the cashback site, which then redirects you to the retailers site, without you seeing if your user name/No was included in the link.0 -
Talking of daily clicks, just got an email which says The Highstreet Web is reducing it's payments to 4p per visit, two visits per day.
This is the amount it pays to it's affiliates, including the cashback sites. So if a site was previously paying you 4p a click it will drop to 2p on 4th Feb.0 -
Didnt mean to yank your tail Geordie Joe, Badly worded on my part, sorry. Your posting came over to me as cynical but I only meant to say that there are two sides to this game, theres your "insider / realistic" side and then theres the "Its easy to make loads" side, and my experience over a couple of years is that for the average joe it falls somewhere in the middle - worth it only if your desperate, enjoy it, or have no better alternative. I've had relatively few clicks fail to track with the exception of a couple of cashback sites where none of them did. It certainly isnt my experience that any significant % are being ignored or pocketed by others.0

Forget about it, sometimes just the mention of cashback sites or daily clicks is like a red rag to a bull to me!
I can't prove any site deliberately "fiddles" the clicks, but I do know the people who told me they had already written scripts for other sites had put that facility into the script.
In my experience, if you can "lower" the amount you have to pay a stranger over the internet, without them knowing about it, then sooner or later you will do it.
It was once described to me as being "not much different to finding money in the street".0
