One tip I read on here is to open another internet window and actually copy or type the URL in yourself, rather than use the actual link provided in the MSE thread. In that way they cannot trace that you linked via a freebie website.
If I remember to follow this rule (and I forget sometimes) it seems to work well.

Thanks for this, but I remember it was advertised on a leaflet inside a toy we had purchsed a while ago, I filled in the details and we recieved nothing :-( I couldn't remember the name of the company so I couldn't contact them. By this time I had thrown the leaflet.
Keep the details you have and harass if you don't get anything
