Have you inspired/converted someone to the "OS ways and means Act" 2008?

That's the second post today where someone has mentioned avatars. Why can't I see them on my pc? Someone said you can get them from MSE home page but I couldn't find them there either. Maybe I should get my OS magnifying glass.

Queenie, I should imagine lots of us have inspired our friends, but wouldn't necessarily be aware of it. In the normal course of family/friends, things rub off that we assimilate unconsciously. We all know that moment when it suddenly *registers* we are doing something just like ...... insert here mum, auntie, grandma, Sheila, or whoever. I know I've learned things from many people and I'm always amazed if someone says they now do something a special way because of me ( now that's not an everyday happening:rotfl: )
It's really nice for you to have such positive feedback, but I think there must be even more people who aren't giving you feedback on how you've affected them.:DYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
What a brilliant post Churchmouse. I'm speechless.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0

My partner is starting to 'get the idea' I can see the penny dropping by the following in the last 2 weeks - asking what is healthier and cheaper to eat when he gets in from work (instead of grabbing a pizza at 3am) he's started helping more in the house (even if his friend took the 'pee' out of him vacuuming) started taking sandwiches to work more (and bringing the bags home to be reused!!I was shocked!!) asking how much things cost, eating what he's given instead of having a moan, oh and he's wearing clothes in the house!!! No I don't mean he was naked before, he used to just wear shorts and have the heating on full, now he's moaning if I put the heating on :rotfl: He's been using the monitor I bought for measuring electricity usage too (actually getting a tad obsessive with it but at least he is keen)
I got my friend a baby food book for Christmas to make her own baby foods after she asked about what I used to make, which she has read cover to cover and is planning what to make her baby already.
Mother I'm still working on! She's been living on ready meals & eating at work, been trying to convince her it is worth 'cooking for one' by when she's been here during the day getting her something out of the freezer for her lunch which she's enjoyed. One day I might be more organised...........

Can't claim to have influenced anyone to be more OS, have given up on OH as a lost cause...but would like to say thanks to all you people who helped me when I first came to MSE last year...thought at first that some things were madly unattainable and that most of you were mad ( no change on that I'm afraid) but I am now so careful about spending money that I managed to have a very low-spend Christmas and have actually saved about €2000 in the last six months....

I only influence anyone by accident!
Made DD(14) pancakes for breakfast and then found out she had told her friends who "wished their Mum would do that for them".
Made DH pea and ham soup in the slow cooker to find he had told everyone in the pub who then went home and asked their wives why they never made proper soup!
DD's friends now love Primark - does that count?"This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA

Haribo, if you fell over some toys on the stairs you'd immediately bounce back up and go through the ceiling and break your neck that way:rotfl::rotfl:
Can't say as I've converted anybody to old style - don't think I am that much of an expert and I've no reason to assume that anybody would listen to me if I decided to start preaching Old Style theory at them. However if somebody were to ask me something specific I'd gladly impart what I know, but I wouldn't shove it in someone's face because I think "my way" is better than their's. How patronising if I did!!
However I know that if I notice my friends doing something useful or innovative and regardless of it being "Old Style" I'll maybe borrow their habit for myself, and tell them of course, as it might give them a warm fuzzy glow.
The opening post in this thread is a load of egotistical self-praising bollax.0 -
