Machine washable king size duvet

I've got a fairly small washing machine and am tired of spending a fortune at the laundry to have my duvets washed. I'm about to take the plunge and by a spundown duvet - this is the cheapest one I've been able to find http://millyskitchenstore.co.uk/TheSpundownDuvet135TogFourSeasons-Product-10046.html
but, although I gather they are absolutely fantastic, I'm terrified of spending so much on a duvet. I was wondering if anyone knows of any similar product that doesn't have such a scary price!

  • Not sure if you will get a king size duvet actually in your washer. I have managed a thin double before now and I have a fairly big washer but haven't attempted a king size. I normally tread it up and down in the bath (that's if you have one of them!) It's a bit more of a faff but cheaper than launderette. Good luck

i dont know of any domestic washing machine that will fit a king size duvet in. personally for the money it costs to wash them, id rather buy a new one every so often. Ikea and Tesco sell duvets for about £10. i know it seems wasteful to buy a new one often, but i donate my old one to the local animal shelter, so at least its gone to good use.

  • Thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned in my post, but the reason I am considering a spundown duvet is because they are advertised as " Unlike other duvets all sizes fit into a domestic washing machine. Washable at 60°C, the temperature that kills dustmites"
  • I wonder how they make it fit in a washer then? A king size duvet is still a king size duvet no matter what it is made from!

  • i've been thinking of buying one of the spundown range too - thanks for the link to milly's - wondered if you'd taken the plunge and what you thought of your buy?

I recently enquired about them and the company sent the following info in case of use:-
-the 13.5 kingsize (both the ordinary and all season) will fit in an average size maching machine, but stressed that the washing was meant just to kill dustmites and freshen the duvet not remove any marks.
    - that the spundown range has the same loft expectancy as any other synthetic duvets
    - the weight of the kingsize 13.5 is 3.3kg and the all season 13'5 kingsize -3.5kg
    - the duvet is expected to last between 3 and 5 years.
