Green Metropolis- anyone ever used this?

Options
Being the born-again DFW I am, I've decided to kill two birds with one stone. I'm having a huge declutter at the moment- and thought I should look into selling some of the stuff that's been sitting here not earning its keep! Books, especially, seem to have bred! I have to admit that, being a frog of very little brain, I'm still confused by ebay! I'm dithering with Amazon- and then I came across Green Metropolis.I wondered if anyone here has had any experience selling on this site. What d'you think? Any good? From what I can see, the advantage is that it seems dead easy to get selling- they seem to do nearly all the work. There are no sellers' fees and the payout is simple. The set fee of £3 per book means I'd probably get more for my paperbacks (all good condition) than I would elsewhere. The main con seems to be the P&P. That comes out of my pocket/ profit and on bigger books may well take up most of the £3 anyway! I should think that it doesn't get as much buying traffic as the other sites- but I couldn't say for sure.Sooooo- any advice/ comments?

Lots of us use Greenmet over on the ebay and other auction sites board (see my sig). As you say the turnover can be slow, I have approx 150 books listed at any one time and sell approx 2 a month, bot other sellers do better than that.

You might also want to join in on the Amazon thread as well as that is another source for selling books that many of us have found very useful.

I'll definitely have a nose around there, soolin, thanks. I'm thinking that if I do have a bash on greenmet, I'll stick with paperbacks at the moment. Off to have a read of threads....

  • I tried Green met a little while ago. I only listed a dozen books but they were all A1 condition and not very old (a few months atmost). After a couple of months I decided the space was more important and the hassle of knowing where they were etc a bind so in the end I removed them and donated to my local library who were very grateful.

  • Hi Penny Frog,
I sold books through green met for about 18 months. I stopped using them when I sent a large book which cost me £5.00 to post. I always ask the Post Office for proof of posting. A week after I sent the book green met informed me that the purchaser had not received the book and so my account was debited the price of the book and p+p £5.00. Now I understand that green met have a reputation to keepo with their purchasers but surely not to the cost of those who provide ALL the books that green met sell.
The way that green met operate is you list your book on their site and they then list it at an increased price on Amazon. Look for a few novels and you will come across green metropolis as a seller on Amazon.
I dont feel that green met are totally the ethical company that they wish to convey. Their donation to charity (which I have no doubt takes place) I feel is a marketing ploy.
I also sell on Amazon and ebay. On these sites at least you are given an opportunity to put your case across.
Personally I would use Amazon, especially if you have factual, information books, you do not pay any fees until the purchase is made.
    Best Wishes
    Graham

I have just sold my first book on Green Metropolis, although my books have been listed there for a few weeks. You do get the opportunity when listing a larger book to add to the price to cover a little extra on the postage costs. I have a larger book and have added 50p to the price to help cover the postage. It does seem to be a very slow way to seel the books tho.
  • Sorry if you already know about this, but thought it was worth a mention. This morning on the Wright Stuff they had a money saving expert on and she mentioned a site called Green Metropolis where you can sell your unwanted books for free, they send you £3 for every book sold plus you can add on P&P if it is a bigger/hardback etc. Looks a really good idea.

There is a thread on the ebay and other auctions board about Greenmet and it is quite well used. I currently have around 150 books listed and sell on average 2 a month, so at least it clears some of my stock!

  • Sounds good to me! I don't like to quote a certain supermarket, but every little helps...
    £5 a day in December £179.59/£155
    £100 on STP by 31 January 09 £2.03/£100

I've recently just discovered Green Metropolis as well, I've had 1 order since I joined last month & hopefully more will follow.

There is another site that I also use as well it's called listbooks.co.uk you can set your own price & postage on there, I've sold approx 17 books, just another 300 odd to go! :rotfl:
