Hi all I am in need of your inspiration and ideas!
It is my friends birthday party a week on Saturday, and she always has a fancy dress theme, everyone seems to go to a great effort and its rather hilarious and lots of fun.
Last years theme was "chav" everyone managed to look the perfect part,it was like walking into an episode of shameless, and people were getting right into their characters. It was particulary amusing for me,as I'd not known her that long and didn't know half the people there.I have since met them in normal life, and its funny how different they really are and how I perceive them differently! They suited their characters so well!
Other parties she's done before I knew her,if anyone is in need of a theme are,Dolly Parton,Nuns and vicars, and bad taste!
Any how this years theme is "Camp Disco" and I'm a bit stuck what to wear.I guess its kind of David Bowie style??Wondered about just a sleeping bag and accessories. But I don't think that's what she means, just a play on words.I've had a search on google, and ebay for inspiration, but not really sure what I'm looking for,if any ones got any ideas, pictures or ideally links to ebay items, that would be fab.
I do have some silver lycra leggings, but my legs don't look to hot in them!
I quite enjoy fancy dress, but I don't want to be uncomfortable,or feel too stupid! Also on the look out for good gift for her,if any ideas there-might go for jewellery rather than disco theme-its the costume that matters!)
Any ideas welcome,thanks.

What immediately springs to my mind is clothes along the line of Scissor Sisters....very camp....and very disco.
Lots of lycra, lurex, glitter etc.:rotfl:
Google them and you will find a whole host of lovely pics.0 -
I like the sleeping bag idea - a play on words is always funnier, and hopefully unique!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

I agree with Badger_Lady, I like the sleeping bag idea. Maybe you could find some cheap mirrorball xmas decorations and attach them to yourself?0

Speaking of vicars.... The last fancy dress party I went to was a tarts & vicars night at a gay club.
It's a long story."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
Think Abba - big heels (platform boots if poss), long blonde wig, silver lycra leggings with a very sparkly tunic. Lots of glitter in the hair and on the face, false eyelashes (glittered if poss). Long, chunky beads (at least three strings), big, gold hoop earrings and lots of bangles. And to top it all a crocheted, cloche hat.
As for a prezzie, think about her character and try to buy something that suits her. Does she like a particular range of ornaments, does she collect anything, eg fairies, frogs, does she have a liking for certain chocolates. Try to make it as personal as possible.0 -
We recently had a fancy dress costume party with the theme being "cave woman/man" and went down really well. It`s nice to be important, but its more important to be nice.
The world is full of people throwing stones at us. Its what you do with them that counts. Build a wall or build a bridge.0 -
Wow ,this was ages ago,if I knew how I could dig out the photos and show you the end result!
I wore a stupid blond wig multi coloured shiny eyelashes,a long vintage swirly kaftan dress and a feather boa,and big fur coat!0 -

Someone obviously digging up an old thread to show off the link in their signature - shame they're not allowed and get reoprted for spam, innit?:rolleyes:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I'll deal with it, and while I'm at it ...
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Special Occasions board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
I think that's where the Fancy Dress threads end up ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Wear your leggings, with shorts or a mini over the top, heels, legwarmers, a slouchy off the shoulder top (ebay have some lovely ones; I just bought one) and maybe some deely boppers too? Ooh! And fingerless gloves!
You could even go for roller boots if you can skate.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
