HELP! A Debt i consolodated is trying to get in touch to get more off me
Hi all, I am writing this on behalf of a family member.
They took out £3k from Halifax Loans, needed more money so took out a loan with welcome who SHOULD have paid off Halifax. They have now paid off the welcome loan however it was about 6 years ago the Halifax loan was paid off but now they are trying to get in touch with him.
He have paid welcome to pay off halifax, is there anyway they may not have paid this money to halifax. He is getting letters and phonecalls to which family members are answering but he has not acknowledged them as he does not want to say he has paid them as then they have got him! we don't know what to do!
Thanks all
Jen

It is unusual for one loan company to directly pay off another, it would be more usual for the second loan company to give the full proceeds to the borrower and then for the borrower to make the arrangements to pay off the 1st loan directly.
Your relative needs to find the original paperwork from Welcome to see how the money was allocated. Fir example if arrangements had been made for welcome ot pay Halifax then that should still be clearly stated in the paperwork ..if the full balance is shown as borrowed with no mention of the Halifax being paid then your relative has a problem.
However, your post does not say that Halifax are definitely trying to get repayment of th eloan, so maybe your relative is panicking about nothing and needs to talk to them to see what the actual position is? Maybe they are calling for another reason.
It would also seem odd that if Halifax was not paid off 6 years ago that they suddenly stopped collecting the loan and only now have found it to be unpaid.
Talk to Halifax and find all the original paperwork.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. i agree with Soolin.
it could be the Halifax are following up all good customers to find out if they need a loan fomr something else.
I doubt very much if they'd leave it 6 years before contacting you.
I suspect your relative has little to worry about regarding the Halifax loan
