If you use your car so rarely, are you sure you really need it?

Could you get to work and the supermarket using public transport?

That would mean you could sell the car, get your bike fixed up and use the leftover cash to pay off some of your debts.

I use the car every day to get to and from work, there is no bus service that stops anywhere near my work.

    Hi trinity

    Well done for posting!!

Have you looked at this calculator? http://www.whatsthecost.com/snowball.aspx

It will help show you how long it will take to pay the debt off, can be daunting, but even better, it can show you how if you can save small amounts elsewhere and use that to pay towards your debt how it can be done quicker. (It will also show that paying the debt with the highest APR is the best way to go, and how long it will take off your current repayment!!)

Drop into the Money saving old style forum if you want to see other ways of cutting back on your expenditure! Work out your budget, Martins budget planner at the top of the thread, is a good reminder of everything you may need to budget for! Including if necessary saving some money to move out.

Good luck, and post your completed budget, someone will reduce it for you ;)

Thanks Murtle, I looked at the money saving tips, and have made cutbacks. I get paid today so I did some planning last night and ended up putting £50 in an envelope for my petrol money (when it runs out it runs out) £100 for me for the month, and £50 for food shopping (b/f would put £50 in to, as we had discussed it). I was on a high feeling good for starting to get organised about saving money....

    but....

bg/f has been working from home today, and he went grocery shopping.. and spent £85.. (our monthly budget was £100!!!!) i give up, i dont know why i bother

don't give up but point out to ur b/f that u only have £15 left for the month and stick to ur guns as much as possible, and hopefully the food u bought will last you at least 2 and hopefully into the third and then u will have to be extra frugal. Hopefully by seeing that ur serious and that the last week was not the best foodwise he won't be so silly in what he buys next time. also tell him you want to go shopping with him to prevent him going overboard

if you stay, try the store cupboard challenge on the money saving oldstyle thread. If you leave, take the store cupboard ingredients and do it for 1 instead....sorry not being flippant, I hope you can work things out either way so you are happy!
