Pay cut - is it legal?

Apologies if this isn't the right place to post this query, but I couldn't figure out which board would be best.At the moment I'm working for a small charity. I'm employed on a contract that runs out at the end of March: it's a new post and the Chief Exec told me that they couldn't make it permanent when I joined because they'd just gone through an organisational review and it wasn't practical to create a new permanent position so soon after the review (it might have upset staff who were made redundant during the review). The only difference between my contract and the permanent contracts is that it's for six months only.It looks as though I'm going to be offered a permanent contract at the end of March. However, from a comment the Chief Exec made last week, I have the impression that they're going to offer me less money than I'm on at the moment. It's nothing to do with the quality of my work and everything to do with internal office politics and the salaries that other staff are on. Can they do this? I know my initial six month contract is going to be treated as "continuous employment" so I don't understand how they can effectively give me a pay cut for no reason. And I certainly can't afford it :-(

If you've been employed for less than a year then there's not much you can do, sadly.0

What does your contract say?0

You could consider it as foregoing part of your current pay for the relative security of being on the permanent staff.0
