was in Franklins yesterday, but its just too expensive. even their sale items, were above my price range. i do like the remnant shop, but tend to stick to the stuff on rolls, as i just dont have the time to sift through all the remnants.

Dunelm Mill (up by Asda) are good for reasonably priced fabrics, as is the Range (although their 'range' is starting to get smaller and smaller)

Personally, i like to while away a few hours in The Cheap Shop in Tiptree, or the fabric stores in Maldon, espec the one that has a coffee shop in it, as i can drink and browse pattern catalogues at the same time

  • Hi Rikki. I'm slowly sorting out my plans for autumn/winter sewing. I've traced off a couple of Burda patterns from the magazine and only need to alter them before cutting out. I'm trying to use up my (cough) extensive stash a bit. So far I'm planning some wide-ish legged trousers (not very wide since they don't really suit me) , a couple of smartish shirts for work (when I finally find a job!) and I also need a black jacket for choir. I'm using mostly grey and black fabrics with a shot of berry. Well that's the plan.

From the magazines it looks as though various trouser widths are in vogue this year, including very skinny ones (not for me) and the aforementioned wide ('Marlene Dietrich') types. I'm not desperately trendy (too old) but I do like to add a hint of something fashionable.

All I have to do now is throw OH off the dining table where he has spread his laptop and a ton of papers (officially 'working') so I can alter my patterns....

    What are you planning?

I have just packed off DS1 back to school :j and DS2 is starting pre-school 5 mornings a week next week :j so I will be getting the sewing machine back out and hopefully have something made soon. I have also just subscribed to Prima magazine for the free patterns and a quick read so hopefull there will be some nice patterns to make some nice clothes. If the weather carries on as it is there will be more time sewing as I wont be going out in the garden in this awful wet weather

They are not free in the magazines in the shops. The robbing sods  get you to pay £2.50 for the mag then pay at least £1.75 for the phone call to order the pattern. in my last magazine there was an offer leaflet to subscribe to magazine for £18 for the year so that is only £1.50 an issue and you get the pattern and it is all delivered to your door so I couldnt miss the oportunity.:D

Yes Im in preston. you've got some fantastic cheap shops in chorley, my mum and I come occasionaly on a shopping trip.
